Description
Title of Presentation: Teaching Entrepreneurship: Making the Possible Real
Presenter: Dr. Sandra Kauanui, Director, Daveler & Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship
Summary of Presentation:
The Daveler & Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship (DKE) at Florida Gulf Coast University started with a dream and a passion to impact SWFL’s economy through empowering our students. The DKE inspires people to make the possible real. Our expert faculty, dedicated staff, and experienced mentors serve as the nucleus of all campus and community entrepreneurial initiatives. The entrepreneurs we support will become community leaders by creating value for others, either in existing businesses or by developing entirely new companies.
Founded in 2017, the entrepreneurship degree program at FGCU began on a shoestring budget based on lean startup and growth mindset methodology, which we have used as a guiding example for our students. In just four years, FGCU’s Entrepreneurship Program has become nationally recognized and is currently ranked the #1 public institution in the State of Florida and #29 Globally by the Princeton Review for entrepreneurship education.
This presentation will cover the DKE’s mission and vision, the process we used for creating and achieving our goals, and how this has impacted economic development in our area. We will briefly summarize our programs and achievements, provide examples of student success, and will also talk about our new home in the heart of FGCU’s campus. At the conclusion of the presentation, we will discuss ways to get involved, and there will be a question and answer session.
